Last night we went ballroom dancing at Asheville Ballroom. Dancing makes me very happy. Any time we can go dancing, it is an extraordinary day.
My husband and I started ballroom dancing this month eight years ago in 2001. I had always wanted to dance. I took tap and ballet lessons when I was three or four years old. The lessons ended when the neighbor who took me with her child to classes moved out of our neighborhood because my mother did not drive.
By the time I was in elementary school, my grandparents paid for me to take piano lessons. My great-grandmothers piano had been restored and refinished and given to my family. I was the child designated to take piano lessons. I enjoyed piano, but I never had a passion for it like I have for dancing.
It took 50 years, but I finally got to take dance lessons again. My husband and I signed up for an eight-week class. We were both almost instantly hooked. The Fall after we started taking lessons, the Asheville Ballroom opened. It is a wonderful place to dance with a 5000 square foot "floating" floor which means that there is cushioning under the hardwood that takes the stress off of joints which makes a difference.
We used to go to Ashevile ballroom weekly. In the past several years, we have not gone as often. We belong to several dance clubs that meet monthly and we have continued to dance regularly, but not as often as we did a few years ago even though we have continued to take weekly dancing lessons.
We are both agreed that one of our intentions for 2009 is to dance weekly. We hope to dance as long as we live.
Hi,
It's never too late to start dancing. I once met an 91-year-old lady who started dancing when she was 86!
I started to take lessons 3 years ago and still enjoy it very much. Looks like you have a nice place to go dancing. In my town, there are several places where we can go ballroom dancing but all of them have very bad floors, which is either too small or too hard.

CAIRO — Several thousand women demanding the end of military rule marched through downtown Cairo on Tuesday evening in an extraordinary expression of anger over images of soldiers beating, stripping and kicking female demonstrators in Tahrir Square.

I see that you've been dancing for a long time now. It won't do to neglect that natural capacity to feel and move to a beat - in time, it almost develops into an involuntary action. Keep on dancing!
