When my husband and I both worked full time as a parish priests, we knew it was important to take retreat time regularly The world we live in is busy and hectic, plus things like noise pollution which has become a serious problem. There is a value in quiet time spent away from the regular routines of life that cannot be measured.
About a year ago, we were invited to take on the volunteer position of Chaplain(s) to the Snail's Pace Retreat Center here in Saluda. Because of our conviction of the importance of retreat time for individuals and our own past time spent at the Snail's Pace, we were excited to take on this role. Up until we became the volunteer chaplains, only two ministers had preceded us in that role.
As Chaplains we come in on weekends when there are groups or enough individuals who want a Saturday evening worship service. The staff of the Snail's Pace are trained lay ministers and Spiritual Directors. We always look forward to our times at the Snail; and, when possible, we always stay for dinner . . . always a feast.
If you have never been on a retreat or have not taken time away recently, I encourage you to do just that. There are retreat houses and centers near almost everyone.
The Snail's Pace celebrated 35 years of ministry last year. The ministry began in "the old house,"
and demand was so great that a new larger house was built in the early 80's.
Both houses are used.
Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge, The Snail's Pace offers a tranquil retreat from your busy daily life. I learned of your retreat center via Baptists Today. I resonated in several ways: reminder of prior association with David Penninger; recently assumed role of Director of Operations, Family Preservation in Tryon; prior to clinical social work, my first career was as a church musician, SBTS grad, now serving as bi-vocational music minister at Covenant Baptist in Gastonia.
I will look forward to learning more, possibly availing myself of the personal retreat time and/or seeing about arranging a retreat time for our FPS, Tryon, staff.
Best wishes
Bobby Jones

I have been a guest at The Snail's Pace for over ten years. I can easily say it is a place of quiet sacredness with wonderful food and hospitality in a beautiful setting.
I have enjoyed grace filled hours there in silence as well as laughter that fills the room. It gets 5 *****stars in my book!

CAIRO — Several thousand women demanding the end of military rule marched through downtown Cairo on Tuesday evening in an extraordinary expression of anger over images of soldiers beating, stripping and kicking female demonstrators in Tahrir Square.
